Blockchain and Web3

Blockchain and web3 are emerging technologies within the Australian ecosystem, rich in digital assets and infrastructure.

NSW is positioned to advance one of Australia’s fastest growing sectors - home to a thriving digital assets ecosystem, world leading research, and representing half of Australia’s total blockchain businesses. The CSIRO's Data61, a world-leading blockchain research organisation, has been researching the growth of the technology since 2015.

NSW hosts half of Australia’s blockchain businesses, with the local cluster of businesses working on blockchain products and services, of similar magnitude to the Greater Seattle or Boston areas. Our State is also home to Immutable, Australia’s only blockchain unicorn and the fastest Australian company to reach unicorn status.

NSW also has the largest technology workforce in all of Australia, and NSW’s top universities are developing strong talent to support this growing industry through their latest blockchain research offerings.
